New features of 4D v12

Totally oriented towards the most open and widely used technologies and full of new features intended to increase the productivity and creativity of developers, 4D v12 is a major new step in the evolution of the 4D product line.

Numerous functions that were much in demand by the 4D developer community are integrated, both at the level of the architecture and the development workshop, as well as concerning the language: new code editor, optimization of find and replace functions, possibility of executing PHP scripts, management of UUID numbers, management of metadata in pictures, improvement of commands managing object properties and extended support of XML and SVG.
The new possibility for installing components in the 4D application allows you to have them available automatically in all the databases. In addition, thanks to the mechanism of SQL external databases, components can now create and use tables and fields.
Printing functions are enhanced with the new PRINT OBJECT command, as well as the possibility of printing list boxes and extended support of PDF printing.
New form objects and widgets accelerate the setting up of modern and sophisticated interfaces: steppers, rich text areas, date or time selectors (datepicker), textual search area and also hierarchical list boxes are part of these new features. Subforms benefit from many improvements more particularly to make them easier to use as components. The new preconfigured object library provides fast access to these functionalities.
Finally, the 4D SQL language provides powerful new functions, such as data replication or synchronization, the ability to open and close different 4D databases during the same session or the extended support for joins.
